The Meeting

Andrew and Brittany met online using a dating app. They sent messages back and forth for a few days online before exchanging phone numbers. It was a week of phone calls and texts before finally going on their first date.

The First Date

Our first date was on May 26th, 2016. We met at a local brewery, Two Brothers. We had some appetizers and drinks as we spent time getting to know each other.

The Moment

During the summer of 2018 we deciding to find a place together and moved in that October. A few months after living with each other and learning each other’s idiosyncrasies, we knew that we were in it for the long haul.

The Quirks

Andrew would say that I am crazy about my condiments! I am especially particular about ranch dressing. Additionally, I am a fan of giving nicknames to the loved ones in my life. I have at least a few for Andrew… he is an epic storyteller. He tells them with such passion that you can’t help but listen! He brings life to even the most mundane every day activities. 🙂

The Proposal

Our proposal was a bit untraditional because I designed my own ring. Andrew was playfully relieved that he wasn’t subjected to that type of pressure and I was grateful that I was able to design the ring of my dreams. It was a win-win! The ring was ready in December. I so patiently waited for a proposal as the months went by. On February 3rd, while snuggling together on a Sunday morning, he discreetly placed the ring on my finger. I was so caught off-guard and was smiling from ear to ear. I requested that Andrew get down on one knee to ask me that famous question, “YES!” and we finalized it with a kiss! A few hours later, we met up with my family for brunch to share the exciting news. That night we celebrated with Andrew’s family.

The Venue

I was very interested in The Haight as soon as I discovered it online. I contacted them immediately to inquire about open dates for 2019—even though it was early February, we were determined to get married then. We were ready to embark on this new adventure and weren’t looking for a long engagement. There were three dates available for that later that year. I knew I had to act fast. I went to the Winter Open House the next day and loved what I saw. The visit solidified my decision in knowing that this was the place I wanted to have our wedding. It met all my expectations and embodied what I had envisioned my wedding to be. It is a gorgeous and unique venue that encompasses the perfect combination of wood and industrial elements that is just timeless. The hanging lights and the gold sparkle backdrop created a romantic atmosphere that was perfect for our theme. The layout of the rooms on the 2nd floor ensured that our guests would be able to enjoy the night without ever losing sight of the party. The staff was very accommodating and friendly during the entire planning process. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!”

The Song

”Got My Mind Set On You” by George Harrison. We used this song as our introduction song at our reception. We even created a little dance for our guests as we walked in!

The Attire

I got my dress from Wolsfelt’s Bridal in Aurora, Illinois. I absolutely loved my dress! If you want a personal feel while you shop for your perfect dress, head to Wolsfelt’s Bridal! You won’t regret it!

The Wedding Day

The first looks were my favorite part of the day. I had a first look with my Dad and with Andrew. I am very close with my Dad so it was extra special to watch him see me in my gown for the first time. It is a moment I will cherish forever. I was extremely emotional seeing Andrew for our first look. The excitement and nervousness was overwhelming but in a beautiful way. The first look was our special time to enjoy each other before the events of the day unfolded. Seeing each other prior to the ceremony soothed our nerves as we stood face-to-face stating our handwritten vows to each other in front of our family and friends.

The Marriage

Since we lived with each other prior to being engaged, we were accustomed to each other. Not much has changed other than the title of husband and wife. We are more conscientious about how we communicate with each other. Effective communication is key in maintaining a healthy and loving relationship.

The Advice

Take time to determine who is in charge of what and work towards one another’s strengths during the wedding planning process. Weddings take a great deal of planning, but don’t forget to take time to celebrate the little accomplishments along the way.  Soak up all the excitement—enjoy this time of being newlyweds. Celebrate with friends and family. Enjoy the new title and phase in your life as “fiancés.” It only gets better from here!
