The Haight

Amy & Jordan 08.17.19

The Meeting

Amy and Jordan met at Illinois State University. They were both history majors and had a few classes together. They didn’t formally meet until Amy saw Jordan at a party and asked him to do homework with her since they didn’t have their textbook yet.

The First Date

We didn’t really go on dates at first since we were both broke college students. We would just do homework and eat dinner together after our night classes.

The Moment

J: There wasn’t a specific time I realized I wanted to get married. When we would hang out Amy would always make me laugh and  always challenge me to see the world in a new light. We always had fun together, we were open to adventure. Over time it became obvious that this was the person that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

A: I graduated college a year and a half earlier than Jordan, so I moved back home to Chicago while he was still at ISU. I knew I wanted to get married when we were both making each other a priority even though we were far apart.

The Quirks

A: Whenever we go to Cubs games, Jordan always buys a scorecard and a pencil from the vendor and will keep score on his own throughout the game.

J: Whenever Amy wears socks she will slide down our hallway instead of walking.

The Proposal

A: Jordan proposed while we were in Florence, Italy on vacation. We both studied abroad there in 2015 and it is one of our favorite places in the world. We were walking back to our hotel after eating dinner and Jordan was being super weird and kept taking me different places throughout the city until he finally found the right spot to propose. We discussed marriage before, but I was still so surprised!

The Wedding Day

Our favorite part of the day, besides actually getting married, was at dinner when we were finally able to relax after the ceremony and visit with our friends and family.

The Venue

We knew as soon as we finished our initial tour that we wanted to get married at The Haight! We looked at several venues before finding The Haight but none had the same industrial/warehouse vibe that we were looking for.

The Song

Music was one of the first things we bonded over when we first started dating. We don’t have one particular song, but throughout our wedding we purposefully picked songs that were meaningful to us. For instance, the song Amy walked down the aisle to (This Will Be Our Year by The Zombies) was from a mixtape Jordan made when we first started dating.

The Attire

A: I got my dress and veil from Honey Bridal and it was designed by Laudae. Bridesmaid dresses are from Bella Bridesmaids (various designers) and the tuxedos were from Men’s Wearhouse.

The Marriage

Honestly, not much has changed for us. We have always been a team, but now that we are married that has only grown stronger as we plan for our future as a family.

The Advice

Remember that this day is about you as a couple so your opinion is the most important. Don’t be afraid to do anything non-traditional if it is a better representation of your personalities!

The Shout Outs

All of our vendors were awesome and helped make our day so special!
